The Environment Protection Act 1986:-

It was passed in India in 1986, it is also known as Umbrella Legislation. This act was passed for the purpose of implementation of decisions that were taken by the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm.

After Bhopal Gas Tragedy on the night of 2–3 December 1984, the Indian Government passes Environment Protection Act 1986 under Article 253 of the Indian Constitution.

This act provides a framework to the central Government for coordination of the activities of various central and state authorities under various previous laws.

The Genetic Engineering Approval Committee is constituted under the Environment Protection Act 1986.

On 22nd July 2010, Genetic Engineering Committee was renamed Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee.

National Green Tribunal Act 2010 (Acts Related To Environment Conservation):-

Under this act, a National Green Tribunal (NGT) was established on 18 October 2010 for effective as expeditious disposal of cases relating to environments protection and conservation for forests to provide the right to a healthy environment, constructed as part of the Right to life under Article 21 of Indian Constitution.

9. World Environment Day is celebrated on 5th June. The first World Environment Day was celebrated in 1973.

14. Pakistan hosted World Environment Day 2021. This year’s observance of World Environment Day theme was ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ and focus on resetting our relationship with nature.
