  • Proof of Age: The govt will ask you to give proof of age, you can give your birth certificate or 10th class DMC.
  • Proof of Address: The person is needed to submit proof of address, you can provide copies of the bill or passbook of the bank showing the address.
  • Proof of Identity: The person can give their Aadhar Card, PAN Card, or similar documents in the proof of identity document.
  • Photograph: The person is required to give a passport-size photo for Voter ID Card.

How to Apply for a Voter ID Card Online

The aspirants who want to apply for the Voter ID Card can go through the online process of the Election Commission of India.

  1. Proceed to the National Voter’s Service Portal: The aspirants should go to the website of NVSP https://www.nvsp.in/ or https://voters.eci.gov.in/.
  2. Fill out the Application Form: The aspirants have to enter the details in Form 6 for the Indian Voters, Form 6A for the NRI persons, and Form 8A for changes in the assembly constituency.
  3. Upload Relevant Documents: The aspirants will be asked to attach the DOB, 10th DMC, Aadhar Card, and other proofs in the Voter ID form.
  4. Submit the form and Track Status: After filling out the details in the Voter ID form, review the details and submit the form. The person can check their status for the Voter ID Card from the home page of the website. 

How to Apply for a Voter ID Card Offline

The aspirants who want to apply for the Voter ID Card offline should follow the below-given steps.

  1. Find out the Nearest Election Office: The applicants should go to the local electoral office.
  2. Fill Out the Form: Ask for Form 6 and fill out the details in Form 6 for Voter ID.
  3. Submit Original Documents: Check the list of docs needed to be attached to Form 6, and attach the hard copy of the form. Submit them.
  4. Track Application Status: You should keep visiting the electoral office to check the status of your application.

Verification Steps to Verify the Status of a Voter ID Card

When you submit your documents either online or offline, the next work is for the Election Commission of India. The Office will check your identity by verifying your documents.

Online Verification

In the online application process of the Voor ID, the person will get an SMS or email. The message will ask you to confirm the details. Follow the steps shown on the phone or laptop and you will be verified. The Election Commission will verify whether the info given by you in the form is correct or not. 

Offline Verification

In the offline voting system, the Booth Officer will ask some questions about your identity or location just to verify you. In most of the cases, the Booth Officer are Local people and knows most of the persons. If they do not know you, they must check your documents for identification purposes.

Updating Old Voter ID to New Voter ID

If some of the information in your voter ID is changed like your address is changed, in that case, you can update your Voter ID.

  1. Forms: The aspirants will be asked to fill out Form 8 for the update of the info along with Form 6. In case of moving to another constituency, you should submit the filled form 8A.
  2. The Document Shuffle: The aspirants should submit all of the documents that they have submitted during the fresh voter ID card like their DOB Proof, 10th DMC, Aadhar Card, photo, etc.
  3. The Final Step: Submit all the documents, and after a few days you will receive a new voter ID. The Govt will send the new voter ID through the post office or you can save it from the website.
