Selection Process of Geologist:-

UPSC(Union Public Service Commission) has announced for the Combined Geoscientist examination, which is a computer-based exam. The Combined Geo-Scientist Examination will consist of four successive stages:-

Stage-I Computer-Based Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type). Marks secured in the Preliminary Examination will be counted for deciding the final merit
Stage-II Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination (Descriptive Type) having three papers for the selection of candidates for the Personality Test.
Stage-III Marks secured in the Main Examination will be counted for deciding the final merit
Stage-IV Personality Test/Interview.

Combined Geo-Scientist & Geologist Examination (in short UPSC GE) is the exam conducted by UPSC for inducting Geologists into two Govt. departments:

  1. Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines and
  2. Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources.

UPSC is  filling up the vacancies related to the Geologist post in India:

  • Geologist(Group A): 100 Posts
  • Geophysicists(Group A):80 posts
  • Geochemist(Group A):80 posts

Note:  For Geologist and Geophysicist and Chemist (Group ‘A’) in the Geological Survey of India, a candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years.
